Sentara Regional Medical Center
 
Williamsburg area residents enjoy convenient access to the Sentara Regional Medical Center, located in Williamsburg, along with nearby medical facilities in Norfolk and Richmond, about an hour's drive from Williamsburg.  Regional healthcare systems are investing millions of dollars to provide state-of-the-art facilities to the area.  In August 2007, Sentara Health System replaced the 45-year-old Williamsburg Community Hospital with Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, a $96.4 million, five-story medical center with 145 beds.
 
The $94.5 million, six-story Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk opened in February 2008 on Norfolk General Hospital’s campus, offering 112 private inpatient beds.

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System is building a 15-story, 367,000-square-foot hospital to replace its North Hospital in Richmond. The $192 million project is expected to open in 2008.
